It was headed to the moon, the world\u2019s ultimate cold-storage unit.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archmission.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arch Mission Foundation<\/a> (AMF) created the Lunar Library, a 30-million-page long compendium of humanity\u2019s greatest cultural offerings, encoded it on a specially designed disc meant to last a billion years, and sent it to the moon to keep it safe. The disc is being carried to its final resting place on the moon\u2019s surface aboard Beresheet, the Israeli spacecraft (and Google Lunar XPrize contender) that was carried to space by the Falcon 9, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/backup-of-humanity-on-its-way-to-the-moon-aboard-israeli-lander\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNET reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Lunar Library contains a vast archive of human history and civilization<\/strong>, covering all subjects, cultures, nations, languages, genres, and time periods. Everything from the contents of Wikipedia, to a compilation of human languages,\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rosettaproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rosetta Project<\/a>, books selected by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Project Gutenberg<\/a>, as well as genome maps, 60,000 analog images of pages of books, photographs, illustrations, and documents, and much of the world\u2019s greatest art, music, literature, and scientific knowledge.
