He was 77.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ygdjhk e2kc3sl0\">His death was confirmed by his wife, Clare Peploe, in a statement that did not specify the cause.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ygdjhk e2kc3sl0\">Mr. Bertolucci\u2019s early work reflected the revolutionary spirit of the 1960s and \u201970s, in particular the shifting social and sexual mores of the times.
