Asteroid 2015 BZ 509 emigrated from its parent star and settled around the sun in a similar environment.\u00a0<span class=\"credit\">(Photo: NASA \/ Hubble Heritage Team)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-1 p-text\">Hey bub, you&#8217;re going the wrong way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-2 p-text\">The solar system&#8217;s first known &#8220;resident&#8221;\u00a0that came from\u00a0interstellar space \u2014 an asteroid orbiting backward\u00a0around\u00a0Jupiter \u2014 has been discovered, <a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/mnrasl\/article\/477\/1\/L117\/4996014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scientists announced Monday. <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">\u201cHow the asteroid came to move in this way while sharing Jupiter\u2019s orbit has until now been a mystery,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iau.org\/administration\/membership\/individual\/11913\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fathi Namouni<\/a>, lead author of the new study and a scientist at the University of Cote d&#8217;Azur in Nice, France.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">The planets and most other objects in our solar system\u00a0travel around the sun in the same direction.
