In January 2012, New Zealand authorities armed with rifles and tactical gear and accompanied by police helicopters raided his rented mansion at the behest of the US, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnet.com\/news\/supreme-court-rejects-kim-dotcoms-legal-challenge-megaupload\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">seizing millions of dollars<\/a> in property and freezing Dotcom\u2019s overseas bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>The US government has been trying to get its hands on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/us-supreme-court-kim-dotcoms-assets-can-be-seized-by-us-government\/a-40782712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$40 million of those assets<\/a> since 2014, saying Dotcom\u2019s web empire profited by $175 million at the cost of some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/us-supreme-court-kim-dotcoms-assets-can-be-seized-by-us-government\/a-40782712\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$500 million in stolen intellectual property<\/a> from the entertainment industry.
