{"id":8613,"date":"2017-08-31T12:12:14","date_gmt":"2017-08-31T19:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/BigJimIndustries.com\/wordpress\/?p=8613"},"modified":"2017-09-12T12:15:08","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T19:15:08","slug":"hyatts-gone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/2017\/08\/31\/hyatts-gone\/","title":{"rendered":"Hyatt&#8217;s Gone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/13wham.com\/news\/local\/40-year-old-video-store-to-close-its-doors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>from WHAM<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>40-year-old East Rochester video store to close its doors<\/h1>\n<p>by Carlet Cleare<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DwAAkM2Zi18\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>East Rochester, N.Y. &#8211; One of the largest and last local video stores in this digital era is closing.<\/p>\n<p>Walking into Hyatt&#8217;s Classic Video on West Commercial Street feels a bit nostalgic, with its extensive collection of VHS tapes, DVDs, cassette tapes and VCRs.<\/p>\n<p>Technology has run through Bob Hyatt&#8217;s veins since the 1960s, when he started selling home theater equipment out of his house.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When a lot of the chain stores like Norman Brothers and Century started selling components through catalogs,\u201d Hyatt said, &#8220;we saw the handwriting on the wall and we went into video.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 85-year-old owned and operated the family video store in East Rochester for 40 years. His four children were also raised in the business.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We moved into this building on the night of the Ice Storm in 1991,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hyatt worked through the struggles of big box competitors and, now, streaming, keeping afloat through converting content on VHS tapes onto DVDs.<\/p>\n<p>At one time, they had 35,000 titles.
