Hackers who implant microchips are known as \u201cgrinders,\u201d a term taken from a comic book. <\/span><span class=\"photographer\">Tim Johnson<\/span> <span class=\"credits\">McClatchy<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re prone to forgetting your card key for the office or your computer password, here\u2019s a solution: Get a microchip implanted in your hand.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.24hourengineer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian McEvoy<\/a> has done multiple times. He\u2019s got five implants, mostly for functional reasons but one just for fun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a glow-in-the-dark implant on the back of my right hand,\u201d said McEvoy, a 36-year-old electrical engineer from St. Paul, Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>For years, owners have implanted microchips in their pets to recover them if they go astray. Farmers use them in cattle. Now, humans are experimenting with subdermal microchips, which are the size of a large grain of rice, to make modern life easier.<\/p>\n<p>Ever so slowly, a trend that began in the hacker community is moving toward the mainstream.
