{"id":7986,"date":"2016-12-02T23:14:14","date_gmt":"2016-12-03T06:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/BigJimIndustries.com\/wordpress\/?p=7986"},"modified":"2016-12-09T23:16:57","modified_gmt":"2016-12-10T06:16:57","slug":"inventor-of-general-tsos-chicken-gone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/2016\/12\/02\/inventor-of-general-tsos-chicken-gone\/","title":{"rendered":"Inventor of General Tso&#8217;s Chicken Gone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.taiwannews.com.tw\/en\/news\/3042881\" target=\"_blank\"><em>from Taiwan News<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Inventor of General Tso&#8217;s Chicken dies in Taipei at age 98<\/h1>\n<p><b>The inventor of General Tso&#8217;s Chicken and founder of famous Taiwanese Hunan-style restaurant chain Peng&#8217;s Garden died in Taipei on Wednesday<\/b><\/p>\n<p>By Keoni Everington<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"General Tso's Chicken\" src=\"http:\/\/tnimage.taiwannews.com.tw\/photos\/shares\/5841456e9bae8.JPG\" width=\"480\" \/><em>General Tso&#8217;s Chicken(By Wikimedia Commons)<\/em>&lt;<\/p>\n<p>Chef Peng Chang-kuei\u00a0(\u5f6d\u9577\u8cb4), the founder of the famous Hunan-style restaurant chain Peng&#8217;s Garden\u00a0Hunan Restaurant (\u5f6d\u5712\u6e58\u83dc\u9928) and inventor of the world famous Chinese dish General Tso&#8217;s\u00a0Chicken, died on Nov. 30 at the age of 98 from Pneumonia.<\/p>\n<p>A native of Changsha, Hunan Province, Peng began training at the age of 13 under the tutelage of the famous Hunan\u00a0chef Cao Jing-chen (\u66f9\u85ce\u81e3), who was the family chef of Tan Yan-kai\u00a0(\u8b5a\u5ef6\u95d3), the prime minister of the Nationalist government from 1926 to 1928. After WWII, he was put in charge of\u00a0running Nationalist government banquets, and in 1949 he fled to Taiwan after the Kuomintang&#8217;s\u00a0forces\u00a0were\u00a0defeated by the communists in the Chinese Civil War.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chinatimes.com\/realtimenews\/20161202001940-260405\" target=\"_blank\">an\u00a0interview<\/a>\u00a0with the China Times, Peng says that his most famous dish was created in 1952 during a four-day visit by U.S. Seventh Fleet commander Admiral Arthur W. Radford.
