Since leaving the Cabs in \u201881, he\u2019s continued to make experimental music (see, for instance, his wonderful 2005\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2ccZ6fj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collaboration with KK Null and Z\u2019EV<\/a>), but he\u2019s best known for his field recordings. BBC Radio 4 has a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p01qcldf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whole page<\/a>\u00a0dedicated to programs that feature Watson and his work; if you\u2019re not careful, you can lose yourself for hours there listening to stories like \u201cWildlife sound recordist Chris Watson presents the crested tit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Richard H. Kirk is, of course, the longest-lasting (and sole remaining) member of Cabaret Voltaire, but I wonder if it\u2019s significant that Watson\u2019s name got top billing on the back cover of the Cabs\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2c6dplU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2bNGdSb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two<\/a>\u00a0albums. Watson\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/2bAy9AP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attic<\/a>\u00a0was the band\u2019s practice space from \u201874 to \u201878, and Kirk credits his distinctive guitar sound on the first records to a fuzzbox Watson, then a phone engineer, built for him.
