Election 2016 is finally getting the coverage it deserves<\/h2>\n

Esquire<\/em>\u00a0has revived\u00a0SPY<\/em>, the biting NYC-based satirical mag that ruled the pre-Internet zeitgeist before shutting up shop in 1998.<\/p>\n

Now a digital pop-up that’ll run until the end of election season, the new\u00a0SPY<\/em>\u00a0lives on as a channel on the men’s magazine’s\u00a0website. In a profile, the\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0suggests the revived mag will\u00a0publish five new articles per day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack in the late ’80s and early ’90s,\u00a0SPY<\/em>\u00a0magazine pretty much had the American satirical-journalism field all to itself,\u201d\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0co-founder Kurt Andersen this morning on\u00a0SPY<\/em>‘s\u00a0new site (Vanity Fair<\/i>\u2019s E. Graydon Carter was the other founder). \u201cThen came the full-blown Internet, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, mainstream journalists getting snarky, and everybody cracking wise on social media 24\/7 \u2014 some of which\u00a0SPY<\/em>\u00a0prefigured and spawned and influenced.\u201d<\/p>\n
