{"id":6557,"date":"2015-06-14T11:29:21","date_gmt":"2015-06-14T18:29:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/BigJimIndustries.com\/wordpress\/?p=6557"},"modified":"2015-06-16T11:33:58","modified_gmt":"2015-06-16T18:33:58","slug":"a-transport-contract-for-confiscated-camels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/2015\/06\/14\/a-transport-contract-for-confiscated-camels\/","title":{"rendered":"A transport contract for confiscated camels&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.ch\/20150610\/ancient-papyrus-texts-found-in-basel-university\" target=\"_blank\"><em>from THE LOCAL ch<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"page_title\">Ancient papyrus texts found in Basel uni library<\/h1>\n<p><a id=\"main_picture_article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.ch\/20150610\/ancient-papyrus-texts-found-in-basel-university\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"kalooga_19077\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.ch\/userdata\/images\/article\/w468\/8e0597b938837ee11cb38c212209a0bcc9f0651b6e0b4aa0d2cf9952ccd37051.jpg\" alt=\"Ancient papyrus texts found in Basel uni library\" width=\"480\" height=\"auto\" \/><\/a><em>Photo: University of Basel<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>A valuable collection of ancient Egyptian papyrus manuscripts has been discovered in the University of Basel\u2019s library after being forgotten for more than a century.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2,000-year-old texts, written in Greek, Latin, Coptic Egyptian and hieratic, were acquired by the university 115 years ago but were subsequently overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>Sabine Huebner, professor of ancient history, recently found them in two drawers in the library\u2019s manuscripts section, the university said on its website.<\/p>\n<p>She began searching for them after responding to a request from a papyrologist (a scholar studying ancient papyrus manuscripts) who wanted to know if the Basel university had a papyrus collection.<\/p>\n<p>The 65 manuscripts are \u201cmostly everyday documents\u201d, such as contracts, letters receipts and petitions, Huebner said in an interview published by the university.<\/p>\n<p>But one of the most interesting ones is a private letter written by a Christian that dates from the first half of the third century, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Other manuscripts include a transport contract for confiscated camels, a <a id=\"itxthook0\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrsta itxthook\" style=\"font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; font-style: normal; text-decoration: none; border: 0px none transparent; padding: 0px; background-color: transparent; background-image: none; display: inline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.ch\/20150610\/ancient-papyrus-texts-found-in-basel-university#\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span id=\"itxthook0w\" class=\"itxtrst itxtrstspan itxtnowrap\" style=\"font-weight: normal; font-size: 100%; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0.075em solid darkgreen; padding-bottom: 0px ! important; color: darkgreen; background-color: transparent;\">purchase agreement<\/span><\/a> for a donkey, a loan, tax receipts and invoices, as well as other personal letters.<\/p>\n<p>[ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thelocal.ch\/20150610\/ancient-papyrus-texts-found-in-basel-university\" target=\"_blank\">click to continue reading at THE LOCAL ch<\/a> ]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>from THE LOCAL ch Ancient papyrus texts found in Basel uni library Photo: University of Basel A valuable collection of ancient Egyptian papyrus manuscripts has been discovered in the University of Basel\u2019s library after being forgotten for more than a century.
