And for almost two years, the central point of interaction for Google\u2019s deeply immersive\u00a0<a style=\"color: #2255aa;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ingress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">alternate reality game<\/a>\u00a0has been an Android exclusive. That changes today: with the release of\u00a0<a style=\"color: #2255aa;\" href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/ingress\/id576505181\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Ingress<\/em>\u2018s scanner app to the iTunes Store<\/a>, the world of\u00a0<em>Ingress<\/em>\u00a0has officially rolled out on\u00a0iOS devices.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Ingress<\/em>\u00a0scanner app asks players to join the green Enlightened or blue Resistance faction in a battle for control over portals tied to real world landmarks. The game has a sizeable player base within the Android community. Over 12,000 players have gathered for the game\u2019s frequent live events in cities across the globe so far in 2014, and the game boasts over 4 million downloads. With the expansion into iOS devices, an influx of new players is likely.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ingress<\/em>\u2018 long-awaited transition to the iOS platform isn\u2019t the only major update the Niantic Project team have been teasing. Earlier this year,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #2255aa;\" href=\"http:\/\/corporate.harpercollins.com\/us\/press-releases\/49\/HARPERCOLLINS,%20GOOGLE%E2%80%99S%20NIANTIC%20LABS,%2020th%20CENTURY%20FOX%20COLLABORATE%20WITH%20BESTSELLING%20AUTHOR%20JAMES%20FRE\" target=\"_blank\">HarperCollins\u00a0announced a partnership<\/a>\u00a0with Google\u2019s Niantic Labs to produce a similar mobile game for Android and iOS devices tied to James Frey\u2019s forthcoming young adult series,\u00a0<em>Endgame<\/em>.
