So they <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/hp\/news_update\/20080226_Salman_Rushdie_horrified_by_security_for_Widener_U__visit.html\" target=\"_blank\">swarmed the Widener campus with police SWAT teams and K-9 units<\/a>. As a matter of fact, they even <a href=\"http:\/\/willdo.philadelphiaweekly.com\/archives\/salman_rushdie\/\" target=\"_blank\">forced a police escort on Rushdie at a Philadelphia train station<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rushdie, who frequently travels the New York subways unescorted and is a bit of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/seven\/09252007\/gossip\/pagesix\/pagesix_u.htm\" target=\"_blank\">man about town<\/a> in these post-fatwa days, was terrified and said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p> &#8220;It&#8217;s insane! [&#8230;] I was absolutely horrified. Assault rifles, tracker dogs &#8211; they scare me!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Hmm. Maybe the Chester police department just wanted to protect Rushdie from <strong>Padma Lakshmi<\/strong> and the risk that his ex-wife would have had been in posession of her (alleged) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestweekever.tv\/2007\/01\/26\/bwe-exclusive-padma-lakshmi-is-a-literal-pothead\/\" target=\"_blank\">favorite herb<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, the most depressing part of this story is that <a href=\"http:\/\/chesterpa.areaconnect.com\/crime\/compare.htm?c1=Chester&amp;s1=PA&amp;c2=new+york&amp;s2=NY\" target=\"_blank\">Chester is one of the most crime-ridden municipalities in America<\/a>.
