Harvey<\/strong>\u00a0includes some of the city&#8217;s most recognizable and storied buildings (the Scientology Celebrity Centre [originally the Ch\u00e2teau \u00c9lys\u00e9e], the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/la.curbed.com\/archives\/2011\/04\/rumormongering_at_villa_carlotta_where_studios_fit_grand_pianos_1.php\" target=\"_blank\">Villa Carlotta<\/a>), but he&#8217;s also behind what was supposedly hailed on its opening as\u00a0<strong>the most beautiful storage building in the world<\/strong>: the American Storage Company Building. Yes, if you&#8217;ve been wondering what awesome purpose the 14-story-tall, Deco\/Spanish Revival beauty at Beverly and Virgil was designed for, we&#8217;ve got news for you: It was built in 1928 as a glamorous repository for people&#8217;s overflow belongings. But it does have some excitement in its past; during prohibition, its top floor housed multiple speakeasies, as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theeastsiderla.com\/2014\/03\/neighborhood-fixture-east-hollywoods-american-storage-building\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eastsider LA wrote about<\/a>\u00a0recently. According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/la.curbed.com\/archives\/2006\/05\/rumblings_bumbl_29.php\" target=\"_blank\">a long-ago Curbed tipster<\/a>, the freight elevators were used to bring guests secretly to the top floor, and there are some remains of what might have been the bandstand still up there.
