Banksy Ascends to Superhero (or Villain) Status in\u00a0City<\/h1>\n

The mayor has condemned him. The police are after him. Possible copycats are posing as him. And vandals who dare deface his work are\u00a0being humiliated by vigilante mobs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Which all points to one conclusion: Banksyis<\/em>\u00a0Batman.<\/p>\n

As we reported\u00a0earlier this week<\/a>, street artist Banksy began his one-month \u201cresidency,\u201d \u00a0Better Out Than In<\/em>\u00a0in New York with a bang, with two tributes to the World Trade Center and 9\/11 raising\u00a0the ire of Mayor Bloomberg<\/a>, who said \u201cgraffiti does ruin people\u2019s property and it\u2019s a sign of decay and loss of control.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though he said he\u2019d leave it up to\u00a0\u00a0Department of Cultural Affairs to deal with Banksy, it wasn\u2019t two days before the NYPD\u2019s Vandal Squad were sent out to\u00a0capture the British artist<\/a>, according to\u00a0The New York Post.\u00a0<\/em>And now that Banksy\u2019s base of operations has been discovered out in Red Hook, that could lead to a subpoena and\u00a0investigations\u00a0of the facility, Gothamist\u2019s\u00a0John Del Signore\u00a0speculated<\/a>.<\/p>\n
