Tom Clancy Dead: Celebrated Thriller Author Dies at Age 66<\/h1>\n

American author Tom Clancy died Tuesday night\u00a0 in a Baltimore hospital\u00a0 at age 66, Publishers Weekly first reported<\/a> via Twitter.<\/p>\n

“He was a thrill to work with,” Ivan Held, the president of Putnam, told The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A cause of death has not yet been revealed.<\/p>\n

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Tom Clancy\u00a0 studied literature at the Loyola College in Baltimore and was \u00a0originally an insurance salesman before becoming famous for writing technically detailed\u00a0espionage\u00a0and\u00a0military science\u00a0books.<\/p>\n

He is responsible for best-selling books such as “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger,” and “The Sum of All Fears” \u2014 \u00a0 all of which were adapted into major Hollywood films<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Seventeen of his novels were No. 1 New York Times best-sellers, including his most recent, “Threat Vector,” which was released in December 2012.<\/p>\n

In 1996, Clancy\u00a0co-founded the\u00a0video game developer\u00a0Red Storm Entertainment\u00a0and has had his name on several of Red Storm’s most successful games<\/a>.<\/p>\n
