{"id":4836,"date":"2013-09-09T17:06:14","date_gmt":"2013-09-10T00:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/?p=4836"},"modified":"2013-09-13T17:13:12","modified_gmt":"2013-09-14T00:13:12","slug":"faux-van-gogh-made-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/2013\/09\/09\/faux-van-gogh-made-real\/","title":{"rendered":"Faux Van Gogh Made Real"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/culture\/art\/art-news\/10295733\/Vincent-Van-Gogh-painting-Sunset-at-Montmajour-discovered-in-attic-unveiled-in-Amsterdam.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>from The Telegraph<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Vincent Van Gogh painting Sunset at Montmajour discovered in attic unveiled in Amsterdam<\/h1>\n<p><em>A Vincent Van Gogh painting that was discovered in a Norwegian attic has been unveiled in Amsterdam in what is the first discovery of a full-sized canvas by the Dutch master since 1928.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/culture\/art\/art-news\/10295733\/Vincent-Van-Gogh-painting-Sunset-at-Montmajour-discovered-in-attic-unveiled-in-Amsterdam.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Director Alex Rueger of the Van Gogh Museum reveals a new discovered painting by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh, in Amsterdam\" src=\"http:\/\/i.telegraph.co.uk\/multimedia\/archive\/02665\/Sunset-at-Montmajo_2665368b.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"auto\" \/><\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>By\u00a0<a title=\"Barney Henderson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/journalists\/barney-henderson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"author\">Barney Henderson<\/a>,\u00a0and agencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Sunset at Montmajour, a landscape of trees and sky in the south of France in Van Gogh&#8217;s familiar thick brush strokes was painted in 1888 but has been lying in the attic of a Norwegian collector who bought the painting in 1908 but dismissed it as a fake.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The painting was unveiled at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on Monday, with Axel Rueger. the director, describing it as a &#8220;once in a lifetime experience&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The painting was authenticated based on comparisons with Van Gogh&#8217;s techniques and a letter he wrote in which he described the painting.<\/p>\n<p>It can be dated to the exact day it was painted because Vincent described it in a letter to his brother, Theo, and said he painted it the previous day &#8211; July 4, 1888.<\/p>\n<p>He said the painting was done &#8220;on a stony heath where small twisted oaks grow&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Researcher Teio Meedendorp said he and other researchers &#8220;have found answers to all the key questions, which is remarkable for a painting that has been lost for more than 100 years&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The painting was listed among Theo van Gogh&#8217;s collection as number 180, and that number can still be seen on the back of the canvas.
