{"id":3631,"date":"2012-10-20T20:27:28","date_gmt":"2012-10-21T03:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/index.php\/2012\/10\/nasonex-corraled\/"},"modified":"2012-10-29T20:35:28","modified_gmt":"2012-10-30T03:35:28","slug":"nasonex-corraled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bigjimindustries.com\/wordpress\/2012\/10\/20\/nasonex-corraled\/","title":{"rendered":"Nasonex Corral&#8217;ed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390443819404577637443977070530.html\" target=\"_blank\">from The Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<h1>Writers Leave the Book Covers to Him<\/h1>\n<p><em>By\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/search\/term.html?KEYWORDS=MATT+MCCUE&amp;bylinesearch=true\" target=\"_blank\">MATT MCCUE<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rodrigo Corral is the darling of the literati\u2014even though he&#8217;s not a writer, agent or publisher.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390443819404577637443977070530.html\" title=\"Bryan Derballa for The Wall Street Journal\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/si.wsj.net\/public\/resources\/images\/NY-BW713_COVER_DV_20120909195900.jpg\" style=\"border: none; float: left; margin-right: 10px\" width=\"240\" height=\"auto\" alt=\"[image]\" border=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" \/><\/a> Over the past 15 years, Mr. Corral has designed more than 500 book covers for works such as Chuck Palahniuk&#8217;s &#8220;Fight Club,&#8221; Jeffrey Eugenides&#8217;s &#8220;The Marriage Plot&#8221; and Gary Shteyngart&#8217;s &#8220;Super Sad True Love Story.&#8221; He draws inspiration for his bold, memorable illustrations from lines in the books, his personal experience and other, more peculiar places.<\/p>\n<p>The idea for the cover of James Frey&#8217;s infamous &#8220;A Million Little Pieces&#8221;\u2014an outstretched hand covered in a rainbow of sprinkles\u2014came from a Nasonex nose spray commercial that showed medicine traveling through a human body, coupled with his spotting the tiny decorative balls at an industrial cake shop on West 25th Street.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Corral&#8217;s next design will debut Tuesday, for Junot Diaz&#8217;s short story collection, &#8220;This Is How You Lose Her.&#8221; To create its multi-colored image of a broken heart, Mr. Corral looked inward. &#8220;It is a classic example of how I bring my own experiences to a cover,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I was going through a bad relationship and it was my &#8216;don&#8217;t think about what I am doing right now&#8217; way of distracting myself.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>[ <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10000872396390443819404577637443977070530.html\" target=\"_blank\">click to continue reading at WSJ.com<\/a> ]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>from The Wall Street Journal Writers Leave the Book Covers to Him By\u00a0MATT MCCUE Rodrigo Corral is the darling of the literati\u2014even though he&#8217;s not a writer, agent or publisher.
