That\u2019s because \u201cMarley\u201d is the latest to be given a \u201cday and date\u201d release, meaning that it will be available in theaters on the same day that it\u2019s offered on demand. Eamonn Bowles, chief executive of distributor Magnolia Pictures, which is known for pioneering VOD distribution models, says he thinks that releasing the movie simultaneously in theaters and on demand will help capitalize on Marley\u2019s enduring popularity on<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052702303772904577334240934549800.html?mod=WSJ_LifeStyle_Lifestyle_5\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0social media sites<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Marley, known for popular songs like \u201cGet Up, Stand Up,\u201d and \u201cNo Woman, No Cry,\u201d died tragically in 1981 at the age of 36 after a battle with cancer. Since then, there have been at least six failed attempts to make a film about him. In the 1990s, singer Lauryn Hill was reportedly on board to play Rita Marley in a Warner Bros. project that never got off the ground.
