font-size: 1em; line-height: 1.38em\"><\/span><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #282828; font-family: georgia, 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 10px; line-height: normal\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A study has found that people who appear to be constantly distracted have more \u201cworking memory\u201d, giving them the ability to hold a lot of information in their heads and manipulate it mentally.<\/p>\n<p>Children at school need this type of memory on a daily basis for a variety of tasks, such as following teachers\u2019 instructions or remembering dictated sentences.<\/p>\n<p>During the study, volunteers were asked to perform one of two simple tasks during which researchers checked to ask if the participants\u2019 minds were wandering.<\/p>\n<p>At the end, participants measured their working memory capacity by their ability to remember a series of letters interspersed with simple maths questions.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Levinson, a psychologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the United States, said that those with higher working memory capacity reported \u201cmore mind wandering during these simple tasks\u201d, but their performance did not suffer.<\/p>\n<p>[ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/science\/9149684\/Children-whose-minds-wander-have-sharper-brains.html\" target=\"_blank\">click to continue reading at The Telegraph<\/a> ]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>from The Telegraph UK Children whose minds wander &#8216;have sharper brains&#8217;
