LOS ANGELES\u2014\u201cJoe May is more like me than I\u2019d like to admit,\u201d says the seasoned actor Dennis Farina of his starring role in his new film\u00a0The Last Rites of Joe May<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a late September\u00a0interview, I spoke with the down-to-earth Farina about his recent work, the roles that interest him, and the parts he would still like\u00a0to play.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m interested in people who are a\u00a0fish out of water… they\u2019re always on the outside looking in,” muses Farina.<\/p>\n

Perhaps best known for movie characters Jimmy Serrano, the mob boss fromMidnight Run<\/em>, Ray\u00a0Bones<\/em>\u00a0Barboni in\u00a0Get Shorty<\/em>, or detective Joe Fontana from NBC\u2019s\u00a0Law and Order<\/em>, Farina\u2019s career broke through with Michael Mann\u2019s famed 1980s drug-enforcement drama,\u00a0Miami Vice<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Since that time, Farina has built up quite a r\u00e9sum\u00e9 working with performers like Bette Midler, Brad Pitt, and Sir Ben Kingsley, as well as directors such as Steven Spielberg, Ed Burns, and Guy Ritchie.<\/p>\n

Are there still roles that Farina wants to explore?<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d like\u00a0to play\u00a0a priest,\u201d he says. There\u2019s also the title from the book by James Frey,\u00a0My Friend Leonard<\/em>, who he notes is similar to Joe May in some respects.”<\/p>\n
