Gagosian gallery launches App for iPad<\/h1>\n

<\/a>Gagosian Gallery announces the launch of an application for the iPad, now available as a free download from the iTunes store. The app will be updated four times per year, providing content that features recent, current, and future Gagosian artists, exhibitions, and projects.\u00a0The artists presented in edition #1 include Richard Avedon, Cecily Brown, John Currin, Vera Lutter, Kazimir Malevich, Elizabeth Peyton, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Richard Prince, and Rudolf Stinge<\/strong>l.<\/p>\n

The app offers unprecedented access and in-depth knowledge of Gagosian Gallery\u2019s artists and exhibitions, presented through visually stunning, richly informative and innovative features, and both moving and still imagery. Art lovers who have yet to see the current exhibition of Picasso\u2019s portraits of his lover Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Walter (Picasso and Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se: L\u2019amour fou<\/em>, April 14\u2013July 15, 2011, New York), can explore a touch-sensitive \u201csketch\u201d view revealing twenty states of Picasso\u2019s etching of his muse. In addition they can watch video excerpts of the renowned art historian John Richardson, a Gagosian curator, discussing the exhibition.<\/p>\n

Admirers of John Currin\u2019s opulent portraiture will revel in the app\u2019s gigapixel digital expos\u00e9 of a recent painting, as well as a 2010 lecture by the artist. Other projects include an interview with writer James Frey about his 2011 novel,\u00a0The Final Testament of the Holy Bible<\/em>, published by Gagosian Gallery. The app also offers excerpts from scholar Aleksandra Shatskikh\u2019s catalogue essay for the historic exhibition\u00a0Malevich and the American Legacy<\/em>(March 3\u2013April 30, 2011, New York).<\/p>\n

Viewers can relive a key moment in art history by watching archival footage of Rauschenberg\u2019s 1966 performance,
