NEW YORK\u2014Pornography has long been an\u00a0au courant<\/em>\u00a0subject for contemporary art \u2014 see\u00a0John Currin<\/strong>,\u00a0Marilyn Minter<\/strong>, or\u00a0Richard Prince\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 but it’s rare to find a working porn star who’s making art. (Ron Jeremy’s media empire isn’t exactly the Warhol Factory.) Enter\u00a0Sasha Grey<\/strong>, the 23-year old adult film actress who has, like an open-minded and highly flexible comet, streaked across the mainstream media radar over these past few years. Suddenly there Grey was, in\u00a0American Apparel<\/strong>\u00a0ads. In\u00a0Steven Soderbergh<\/strong>\u00a0movies. On “Entourage,” dating Vince. And, as of today, promoting the release of\u00a0her first book of art photography<\/a>, “Neu Sex,” published by\u00a0VICE Books<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Last night Grey was joined by friend and occasional collaboratorBrandon Stosuy<\/strong>\u00a0for a standing-room only conversation at\u00a0Housing Works Caf\u00e9<\/strong>. Dressed rather demurely, Grey shared her love for\u00a0Cindy Sherman<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Nan Goldin<\/strong>, and explained how she’s been able to recast her career in pornographic films as performance art.<\/p>\n
