And they are starting the next round with the sort of fanciful, scary, sometimes heartwarming movies they know best \u2014 and their new distribution ally, Walt Disney Studios, needs most.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural film from the revamped DreamWorks, \u201cI Am Number Four,\u201d with those hormonal teenagers and nasty aliens \u2014 and a heavy \u201cTwilight\u201d element \u2014 is set for release on Disney\u2019s Touchstone banner on Feb. 18. Mr. Spielberg is not expected to take a credit on the film, remaining in his executive role. But neither is he taking chances with the first in a string of movies that will inevitably have investors, business allies and the audience watching for his trademark screen magic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of him in there,\u201d said Marti Noxon, who is among the writers of \u201cI Am Number Four,\u201d and is perhaps best known for her work on the television series \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer.\u201d More than once, said Ms. Noxon, she found herself laboring with Mr. Spielberg in a conference room in his adobe-style complex on the Universal Studios lot here in an effort to get the teenagers and aliens just right.<\/p>\n<p>DreamWorks \u2014 now owned by Mr. Spielberg and Stacey Snider, with financial backing from Reliance Big Entertainment of India and distribution via Disney \u2014 carefully picked the release date. It is the kind of winter slot that has been good to popcorn fare like \u201cPaul Blart: Mall Cop,\u201d which generated over $183 million at the global box office last year, and \u201cPercy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,\u201d which took in $226.4 million in February.<\/p>\n<p>The director of \u201cI Am Number Four,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/movies.nytimes.com\/person\/166714\/D-J-Caruso?inline=nyt-per\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #004276; text-decoration: underline\" class=\"meta-per\">D. J. Caruso<\/a>, gave DreamWorks a pair of PG-13 hits, \u201cDisturbia\u201d and \u201cEagle Eye,\u201d during its unhappy tenure as a partner of Paramount Pictures. The producer is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/b\/michael_bay\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #004276; text-decoration: underline\" class=\"meta-per\" title=\"More articles about Michael Bay.\">Michael Bay<\/a>, who mixed teenagers and space creatures for DreamWorks and Paramount in the blockbuster \u201cTransformers\u201d series.
