And as the years passed, it turned out that he even had something of a soft side, difficult as it was to see or believe.<\/p>\n<p>And so, when\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/s\/george_m_steinbrenner_iii\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\" style=\"color: #004276; text-decoration: underline\" class=\"meta-per\" title=\"More articles about George M.
