The previous record was $104.1 million, paid for a 1905\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/people\/p\/pablo_picasso\/index.html?inline=nyt-per\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #000066\" title=\"More articles about Pablo Picasso.\">Picasso<\/a>, \u201cBoy With a Pipe (The Young Apprentice),\u201d at Sotheby\u2019s in New York in 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Sotheby\u2019s had expected the sculpture to bring $19.2 million to $28.8 million.
