He was 64.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; margin: 0px\">The founder of the Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken chain grew up in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/New+Orleans\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #015fb6; text-decoration: none; padding: 0px; margin: 0px\" title=\"New Orleans\">New Orleans<\/a>. Copeland sold his car at age 18 for enough money to open his own one-man doughnut shop. He went on to spend 10 modestly successful years in the doughnut business.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-bottom: 10px; margin: 0px\">The opening of a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/topics\/KFC+Corporation\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: #015fb6; text-decoration: none; padding: 0px; margin: 0px\" title=\"KFC Corporation\">Kentucky Fried Chicken<\/a>\u00a0restaurant in New Orleans in 1966, however, caught Copeland&#8217;s eye. Inspired by KFC&#8217;s success, Copeland in 1971 used his doughnut profits to open a restaurant, Chicken on the Run.
