The James Frey Interview<\/a><\/h1>\n

After having some fun with film types and social media (I think there\u2019s\u00a0still<\/em>\u00a0some Michelle Yeoh footage to surface) I was approached by the publisher John Murray to see if I had any ideas about mixing things up with their authors. Of course, I said, as long as you have someone interesting. How about\u00a0James Frey<\/a>? was the reply\u2026<\/p>\n

Handily James was already scheduled to\u00a0appear at the ICA<\/a>\u00a0last month and I\u2019d already been chatting to those guys about helping out with what they do since they kindly suggested we relocate the\u00a0Tuttle Club<\/a>\u00a0there. Perfect.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d read\u00a0A Million Little Pieces<\/em>\u00a0just prior to its UK release and had actually met Frey before from my time as a bookseller, but aside from the\u00a0South Park<\/em>\u00a0episode in which\u00a0Oprah\u2019s vagina pulls a gun and shoots a police officer<\/a>, I hadn\u2019t kept track of his career post-controversy. So off I went to his\u00a0UK site<\/a>\u00a0and was pleasantly surprised to find it was\u00a0the work<\/a>\u00a0of my friend @stml. Small world.\u00a0Big Jim Industries<\/a>\u00a0is well worth a look too.<\/p>\n

In the meantime @blackpooltower (James\u2019 UK publisher) got the word out via his forum which eventually lead to a fun afternoon at the ICA chatting to the author. He was as laid back and interesting as I remember and had a copy of\u00a0Knockemstiff by Donald Ray Pollock<\/a>\u00a0(highly recommended!) tucked under his arm. He turned out to be eager to go past our allotted time and here\u2019s the resulting interview in three parts:<\/p>\n

What was interesting to me was that while James wasn\u2019t prepared to speak at the later event about the Oprah controversy, he was more than happy to answer questions about it\u00a0direct from his readers<\/em>. It was also encouraging to see how quickly John Murray themselves got excited about this kind of thing.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a direct link here between both the innovative stuff we\u2019ve been doing with Reuters and all the film related stuff I\u2019ve had a hand in since the\u00a0Juno<\/em>\u00a0Twitter screening back in \u201807 and hanging out with Spielberg and the\u00a0Indy<\/em>\u00a0cast in Cannes last year.<\/p>\n

But more on all that later\u2026<\/p>\n
