paintings from a museum on the French Riviera after breaking in through a hole cut in its garden fence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bryan Masson, the mayor of Cagnes-sur-Mer, about 10 miles west of Nice, said the pair appeared to have been \u201cwell equipped and well informed\u201d about the museum, which houses works by the French impressionist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/pierre-auguste-renoir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pierre-Auguste Renoir<\/a>\u00a0in his former home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The theft early on Tuesday is the latest in a string of recent museum heists in France and across Europe, including the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2025\/oct\/20\/louvre-museum-robbery-thieves-stolen-jewellery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">brazen break-in at the Louvre in Paris last October<\/a>, when \u2060thieves stole crown jewellery worth \u20ac88m (\u00a375m), including tiaras, a brooch, necklaces and earrings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[ <a
