They arrived at a consensus quickly: All three of them were already fans of the Minutemen, the San Pedro, California-bred trio whose short lifespan left an indelible mark on American punk. Over a decade since their untimely disbandment following the death of founding guitarist D. Boon, bassist Mike Watt heard that a crew of skateboarders, stunt performers, and general pranksters wanted to use \u201cCorona\u201d\u2014a rowdy cowpunk highlight of their 1984 masterpiece\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/music\/greatest-albums\/the-greatest-albums-of-1984\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Double Nickels On the Dime<\/a><\/em>\u2014to introduce their upcoming MTV series. Watt could barely tolerate the clips they\u2019d sent him, but he was charmed nonetheless. \u201cWhat I liked about it was they were really doing this shit, this was not fake,\u201d he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loudersound.com\/features\/minutemen-corona-jackass-mike-watt-d-boon-mtv-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0in 2022. \u201cI can\u2019t watch that crap, y\u2019know.
