Ridley Scott<\/a>, a filmmaker not known for pulling his punches, has issued a withering assessment on the health of Hollywood output right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Gladiator<\/a><\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Blade Runner<\/em>\u00a0director argued that the industry is \u201cdrowning in mediocrity.\u201d So much so, Scott revealed that he has taken to re-watching his old films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scott made the comments during an interview reflecting on his career at BFI Southbank in London on Sunday. Metro<\/a> and Yahoo!<\/a> were among those reporting the Oscar-nominated director\u2019s remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe quantity of movies that are made today, literally globally \u2013 millions. Not thousands, millions\u2026 and most of it is s**t,\u201d he said. Scott added that films are too often \u201csaved\u201d by digital effects because they haven\u2019t got a \u201cgreat thing on paper first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
