C-SPAN\u2019s \u2018Ceasefire\u2019 Tries To Show Cooler Heads Can Prevail At A Time Of Hyper-Polarization<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

C-SPAN<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0Ceasefire<\/a><\/em>, the new series designed for civil conversations among partisan opposites, is landing at a moment when there is a real ceasefire, a first phase of a\u00a0peace agreement<\/a>\u00a0reached to end hostilities in Gaza, while there are few signs of an end to the political discord at home amid the\u00a0government shutdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is one of the major initiatives from\u00a0Sam Feist<\/a>, the longtime CNN executive who once oversaw a highly successful series,\u00a0Crossfire<\/em>, that, by its very title, sounds like the polar opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intent of Ceasefire<\/em>, Feist said, is to show that \u201cRepublicans and Democrats can have a civil conversation. We don\u2019t have to hate each other because we have a friend or family member who voted differently. That is at the heart of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added, \u201cConflict is not the goal. It is just the opposite. Conversation is the goal, and if there is the opportunity for compromise, great.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
