It\u2019s a slur for the AI age. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClanker,\u201d a word that traces back to a Star Wars video game<\/a>, has emerged in recent weeks as the internet\u2019s favorite epithet for any kind of technology looking to replace humans. On TikTok, people harass robots in stores<\/a> and on sidewalks<\/a> with it. Search interest for the term has spiked<\/a>. On X, Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., used the term last week to tout a new piece of legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSick of yelling \u201cREPRESENTATIVE\u201d into the phone 10 times just to talk to a human being?,\u201d he posted on X<\/a>. \u201cMy new bill makes sure you don\u2019t have to talk to a clanker if you don\u2019t want to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
