(Bettmann Archive\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This week\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/weather\/2023\/12\/11\/geminids-meteor-shower-watch\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Geminid meteor shower<\/a>&nbsp;is expected to be one of the most impressive of the year. According to astronomers, this stellar show \u2014 peaking Wednesday night \u2014 could produce up to 150 \u201cshooting stars\u201d per hour in white, yellow and even green hues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As dramatic as that might be, it can\u2019t hold a candle to the Leonid Meteor Shower of 1833. On the night of Nov. 12-13, so many meteors burned through the Earth\u2019s atmosphere that they seemed to turn the night sky into morning.
