Now, they\u2019re asking their parents to track them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every generation experiences its set of traumas, but social media and real-time news\u2014with vivid images about the pandemic, war and other disasters\u2014have heightened these anxieties among young people. And lots of them are closer to their parents than previous generations have been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of Gen Z, ages 11 to 26, say they use family location-sharing apps to bolster a sense of security. Downloads of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/market-data\/quotes\/AU\/XASX\/360\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Life360<\/a>\u00a0doubled in the U.S. since 2021. The app now has more than 33 million monthly active users in the U.S. and another 20 million internationally. Even more teens share their location using\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT210514\" target=\"_blank\">Apple\u2019s Find My<\/a>, Google\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/families\/answer\/7103413?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\">Family Link<\/a>,\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/market-data\/quotes\/SNAP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Snapchat<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/location-sharing-the-agony-and-ecstasy-of-knowing-where-all-your-friends-are-cf3e583c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Snap Map<\/a>\u00a0and GPS-equipped\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/personal-tech\/smartwatches-keep-phone-begging-kids-at-bay-but-there-are-downsides-ef1f7e82\" target=\"_blank\">smartwatches<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gen Z respondents to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.life360.com\/blog\/gen-z-location-sharing-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a recent survey<\/a>\u00a0from<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Life360 said they share their location when they drive, when they go on dates and when they attend concerts and other large gatherings.
