LOS ANGELES \u2014 From a glass-walled penthouse above the Sunset Strip it is impossible not to observe that times have changed.<\/p>\n

Just down the street, the original Spago restaurant, that emblem of the flush 1980s, is an empty shell. And here in the penthouse offices of Senator Entertainment,\u00a0Bret Easton Ellis<\/a>, another symbol of those super-slick times, is sprawled in a soft chair, wearing decidedly unslick running shoes and sweats.<\/p>\n

Mr. Ellis, now 44, was 21 when he chronicled this city\u2019s high life in\u00a0\u201cLess Than Zero\u201d<\/a>\u00a0(1985), his debut novel.<\/p>\n

Asked last week whether he missed any of it \u2014 the heat, the flash, the coke-blurred frenzy of Los Angeles past \u2014 he shuddered. \u201cOh, no,\u201d he said, and appeared to mean it. \u201cI don\u2019t miss it at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, Mr. Ellis and Senator are bringing a bit of that lost world to the\u00a0Sundance Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0next week.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 22 they are planning a premiere screening of\u00a0\u201cThe Informers,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0directed by Gregor Jordan and based on Mr. Ellis\u2019s collection of stories of the same title. Written during his college years, the stories describe the beautiful wreckage of lives in and around the expensive part of Los Angeles, about 1983.<\/p>\n

The film has sex. \u201cI think Amber Heard wears a dress once in the entire movie,\u201d Mark Urman, Senator\u2019s president of distribution, said. He was speaking of a young actress, last seen in\u00a0\u201cPineapple Express,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0who spends much of \u201cThe Informers\u201d undressed, and in bed.<\/p>\n

The movie \u2014 \u201ca guilty pleasure,\u201d Mr. Urman calls it \u2014 also has drugs, alienation and enough glam-rock to set it apart from other work at this year\u2019s festival, which begins on Thursday in Park City, Utah, and runs through Jan. 25.<\/p>\n
