In her introduction to\u00a0Behind the Bedroom Door<\/em>, Paula Derrow bemoans \u201chow little the women I know [talk] about the awkward couplings and surprising urges, the long dry spells or messy, mind-blowing encounters that make up a person\u2019s sexual history.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hmmm. Ms. Derrow must know some women I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

But she may have a point when she goes on to assert that the media, post\u2013Sex and the City<\/em>, has given us a warped view of what others are up to, making us insecure about our own \u201cless than HBO-worthy experiences.\u201d Hence the need for this latest feisty collection of essays from women writers, which, in the vein of other catchily titled tomes like\u00a0The Bitch in the House: 26 Women Tell the Truth About Sex, Solitude, Work, Motherhood, and Marriage<\/em>, and\u00a0Because I Said So: 33 Mothers Write About Children, Sex, Men, Aging, Faith, Race, and Themselves<\/em>, aims to unleash the voices of the day on a provocative personal topic, providing a more \u201chonest\u201d view of things.<\/p>\n
