But baked into that seemingly small change in the average is a big increase in dangerous extreme temperatures. That\u2019s made cooling, particularly air conditioning, vital for the survival of billions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"es1uBy\">The devastation of extreme temperatures is playing out right now in several places around the world. A gargantuan\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/23057267\/india-pakistan-heat-wave-climate-change-coal-south-asia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heat wave over India and Pakistan<\/a>, where 1.5 billion people live, is now in its third week. Just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2022-05-03\/india-s-heatwaves-are-testing-the-limits-of-human-survival\">12 percent of India\u2019s population<\/a>\u00a0has air conditioning, but even those people are suffering.
