A University of Cambridge astro-biologist believes that scenario is more possible than you\u2019d imagine,<\/strong> based on his research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The BBC\u2019s Science Focus magazine\u00a0recently published an interview<\/a>\u00a0with Simon Conway Morris, an evolutionary palaeobiologist at the university\u2019s Department of Earth Sciences, in which he stated that\u00a0researchers can\u00a0\u201csay with reasonable confidence\u201d\u00a0<\/em>that human-like evolution has occurred in other parts of the universe.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea of convergent evolution,<\/strong> which, according to Science Focus, asserts that \u201crandom effects gradually average out such that evolution converges, tending to generate similar creatures in any given environment,\u201d<\/em> lies at the heart of Morris\u2019 thinking. Flying, for instance, was used by the magazine as an illustration of how flying \u201chad evolved independently on Earth at least four times \u2014 in birds, bats, insects, and pterosaurs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In summary, convergent evolution theory asserts that evolution is a natural law that operates similarly on all planets. In other words, the blue and green alien humanoids from\u00a0\u201cStar Trek\u201d\u00a0<\/em>may be real.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
