The work is part of a signature series of \u201cShot Marilyn\u201d portraits made famous after a gun-toting visitor allegedly fired a shot into a stack of canvases in the artist\u2019s studio in 1964.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seller of this \u201cShot Sage Blue Marilyn\u201d version is an eponymous foundation created by the well-known Zurich dealer Doris Ammann, who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.christies.com\/features\/A-tribute-to-swiss-gallerist-Doris-Ammann-11592-1.aspx?sc_lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">died at age 76 last year<\/a>, and her late brother, Thomas, a dealer who helped sell and catalog the official inventory of Warhol\u2019s works before Mr. Ammann died in 1993.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If successful, this example will smash the artist\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/sotheby8217s-sells-1054-million-warhol-1384390845?mod=article_inline\" target=\"_blank\">current auction record of $105.4 million<\/a>\u00a0set nine years ago when Sotheby\u2019s sold 1963\u2019s \u201cSilver Car Crash (Double Disaster).\u201d Potential bidders will need to spend far more to surpass private sales of Warhol\u2019s work, though.
