No cause of death has yet been given. Andrew Holness, the country\u2019s prime minister, sent \u201cdeep condolences\u201d to Perry\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The loping tempos of Perry\u2019s work established the roots reggae sound that Bob Marley made world famous, while his dub production, with its haunting use of space and echo, would have a profound influence on post-punk, hip-hop, dance music and other genres. Along with his gnomic pronouncements and mystical air, he became one of Jamaica\u2019s most unusual and esteemed artists.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2018\/dec\/14\/keith-richards-gives-up-drinking-almost-saying-i-got-fed-up-with-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Keith Richards<\/a>\u00a0once described him as \u201cthe Salvador Dal\u00ed of music. He\u2019s a mystery. The world is his instrument.
