But when the coronavirus pandemic forced her indoors and away from the general public, she started showering once a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new practice felt environmentally virtuous, practical and freeing. And it has stuck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t get me wrong,\u201d said Ms. Harper, 43, who has returned to work. \u201cI like showers. But it\u2019s one thing off my plate. I\u2019m a mom. I work full-time, and it\u2019s one less thing I have to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pandemic\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2020\/12\/america-loves-to-hate-sweatpants\/617324\/\" target=\"_blank\">upended the use of zippered pants<\/a>\u00a0and changed people\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2021\/02\/07\/965014031\/the-pandemic-has-changed-the-way-we-eat\" target=\"_blank\">eating<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/12\/well\/mind\/covid-pandemic-drinking.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drinking habits<\/a>. There are now indications that it has caused some Americans to become more spartan when it comes to ablutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/12\/16\/parenting\/teen-tween-smelly-hygiene.html\">have complained that their teenage children are forgoing daily showers<\/a>. After&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2021\/apr\/21\/i-wash-my-hands-and-genitals-the-rest-i-gave-up-how-the-pandemic-changed-our-hygiene-habits\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the British media reported<\/a>&nbsp;on a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/topics\/health\/articles-reports\/2021\/02\/23\/brits-ditching-bras-showering-less-lockdown\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">YouGov survey<\/a>&nbsp;that showed 17 percent of Britons had abandoned daily showers during the pandemic,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wesyang\/status\/1310655949372350476\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">many people on Twitter<\/a>&nbsp;said they had done the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/05\/06\/health\/shower-bathing-pandemic.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click to continue reading at NYT<\/a> ]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>from The New York Times See Fewer People.
