His new book,&nbsp;&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.com\/B015CLB53M\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Game Theorist\u2019s Guide to Parenting<\/a><\/em>\u2014written with journalist Paul Raeburn\u2014explains how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Force Cooperation<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For siblings who refuse to work together, Zollman recommends a version of the prisoner\u2019s dilemma. Assign them a task they can do jointly, like picking up the toys, then give them each the same reward or punishment based on their performance as a team: If one kid slacks off, the next time around the other one is likely to refuse to cooperate, and both will lose out. Over time, this setup compels teamwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Make Them Pay<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who gets the bigger room? Who gets to name the cat? It\u2019s the old King Solomon problem: Some things you just can\u2019t cut in half. So have kids bid with chores or their allowance.
