Darth Vader actor David Prowse has died at 85<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The 6-foot-6 former bodybuilder played the Star Wars villain in the original trilogy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Prowse, the actor who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars films, has died, the <\/em>Associated Press<\/em> reported<\/a>. He was 85. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

George Lucas asked Prowse to audition for\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0after\u00a0seeing the 6-foot-6 actor<\/a>\u00a0in the 1971 Stanley Kubrick film\u00a0A Clockwork Orange.\u00a0<\/em>Prowse had his choice of playing Chewbacca or Vader, and opted for the latter because,\u00a0as he told the\u00a0BBC<\/em><\/a>, \u201cyou always remember the bad guy.\u201d Plus, he added, he didn\u2019t fancy wearing Chewbacca\u2019s fur suit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prowse played Luke Skywalker\u2019s erstwhile father in Star Wars<\/em>, The Empire Strikes Back,<\/em> and Return of the Jedi<\/em>, but famously, his voice didn\u2019t make it into the films. He said all Vader\u2019s lines, but the voice of James Earl Jones was later dubbed in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
