Clendenin \/ Los Angeles Times)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Daniel Kaluuya is used to getting people talking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After appearing in the first season of Charlie Brooker\u2019s dystopian anthology series \u201cBlack Mirror,\u201d the British actor went on to deliver a breakout performance in Jordan Peele\u2019s genre-redefining psychological horror film \u201cGet Out,\u201d for which he was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/la-et-mn-daniel-kaluuya-oscar-nominations-get-out-20180123-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">nominated for an Oscar<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the two years since, he\u2019s had memorable turns in Marvel\u2019s megahit \u201cBlack Panther\u201d and Steve McQueen\u2019s critically acclaimed \u201cWidows\u201d before once again taking the lead in the Thanksgiving release \u201cQueen &amp; Slim,\u201d directed by Melina Matsoukas from a script by Lena Waithe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a blessing, man,\u201d he said over a late October lunch at Mid-City\u2019s Paper or Plastik cafe. \u201cI realized I\u2019m always there at the beginning of things: Doing Jordan\u2019s first [directed] film and then Lena\u2019s first film, the first [season] of \u2018Black Mirror,\u2019 \u2018Black Panther.\u2019 It\u2019s a nice thing to affirm something that could be in the zeitgeist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the same way that \u201cGet Out\u201d and \u201cBlack Panther\u201d sparked broad and unexpected cultural conversations when they were released, \u201cQueen &amp; Slim\u201d is primed to do the same.
