The brilliance that is Queen & Slim<\/em> has been described as a \u201cfor us, by us\u201d film, with Black women Melina Matsoukas and Lena Waithe at the helm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Black excellence was apparent with\u00a0Waithe telling ESSENCE<\/a>\u00a0that she and Matsoukas, who made her directorial debut with the feature film, didn\u2019t use any feedback\u00a0about their film from anyone at the studio who wasn\u2019t Black<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The \u201cBlack out\u201d around\u00a0Queen & Slim<\/em>\u00a0didn\u2019t stop there. In fact, while we were at the AFI Fest premiere last month, we met the CEO and President of entertainment studio 3BlackDot, Angelo Pullen and Reginald Cash. These two Black men are among the financiers behind the film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
