She placed Beyonc\u00e9 atop a flooded car in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=WDZJPJV__bQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cFormation\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;and built&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tg00YEETFzg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heaven and dystopia<\/a>&nbsp;in Rihanna\u2019s \u201cWe Found Love.\u201d She introduced Lady Gaga\u2019s zany theatricality to the world in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2Abk1jAONjw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Just Dance<\/a>.\u201d Through her many conceptually ambitious and uniquely stylized works, Matsoukas shifted the modern ambition and aesthetic of the music video, bringing it closer to those of a feature film.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it\u2019s no surprise that her directorial feature debut,\u00a0<em>Queen &amp; Slim<\/em>, is deeply indebted to music. The film has been called a modern-day\u00a0<em>Bonnie &amp; Clyde<\/em>: it follows the two eponymous characters (played by Jodie Turner-Smith and Daniel Kaluuya) who flee south after Slim kills a police officer in self-defense.
