After a forgettable first date in Ohio, the pair are pulled over on a minor traffic stop \u2014 but the situation ends suddenly and tragically, with a police officer dead after Kaluuya\u2019s character fights back in self-defense. The incident goes viral, and the two (him a retail employee, her a criminal defense lawyer) go on the run and become national figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 17-song soundtrack is a display of Black talent and artistry, featuring a genuinely staggering lineup ranging from rising hip-hop superstars to soul and R&amp;B legends. A new, fiery\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-us\/2019\/11\/8692674\/megan-thee-stallion-coach-holiday-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Megan Thee Stallion<\/a>\u00a0track kicks off the proceedings, followed by original songs by\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-us\/2018\/08\/208593\/lauryn-hill-medium-interview\" target=\"_blank\">artists including Lauryn Hill<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 her track \u201cGuarding The Gates\u201d is\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/lauryn-hill-new-song-guarding-the-gates-queen-and-slim-913471\/\" target=\"_blank\">her first new music in five years<\/a>,\u00a0<em>Rolling Stone<\/em>reports, though fans might recognize it from her live shows.Other artists on the soundtrack include \u2014\u00a0*takes deep breath* \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-us\/2018\/04\/196566\/vince-staples-called-out-r-kelly-coachella\">Vince Staples<\/a>, 6LACK, Mereba, Syd, Coast Contra, BJ The Chicago Kid,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-us\/2018\/12\/217834\/lil-rappers-wayne-pump-uzi-vert-baby\" target=\"_blank\">Lil Baby<\/a>,\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-gb\/best-black-british-albums\" target=\"_blank\">Burna Boy<\/a>, and Blood Orange, who also composed the film\u2019s score. Classic songs by Bilal (\u201cSoul Sista\u201d), Mike Jones (\u201cStill Tippin\u2019\u201d), and Roy Ayers (\u201cSearching\u201d) are on the list, too, along with Tiana Major9 and EarthGang\u2019s new single \u201cCollide,\u201d which dropped with an accompanying music video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Queen &amp; Slim\u00a0<\/em>was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.refinery29.com\/en-us\/2019\/05\/232085\/lena-waithe-pyer-moss-jacket-invented-met-gala-2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">written by Lena Waithe<\/a>, and draws inspiration from a short story by her and author James Frey. Waithe worked with\u00a0<em>Queen &amp; Slim\u00a0<\/em>director Melina Matsoukas and Motown Records\u2019 president, Ethiopia Habtemariam, to assemble the soundtrack, which is intended to sound like a musical road trip mirroring the characters\u2019 journey together.
