While there\u2019s no definite answer \u2014 and probably never will be \u2014 the idea that there\u2019s multiple versions of you, living in various universes, isn\u2019t as make-believe as you might think.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Sean Carroll, a theoretical physicist at the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.caltech.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">California Institute of Technology<\/a>\u00a0and author of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/s?k=Something+Deeply+Hidden%3A+Quantum+Worlds+and+the+Emergence+of+Spacetime&amp;i=stripbooks&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1524743011&amp;linkCode=gs3&amp;linkId=744eb341e2ae14a7b6a2b7df066e3543&amp;tag=thenextwebama-21&amp;ref=as_li_tl\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Something Deeply Hidden: Quantum Worlds and the Emergence of Spacetime<\/em><\/a>, the theory of\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.quantamagazine.org\/why-the-many-worlds-interpretation-of-quantum-mechanics-has-many-problems-20181018\/\" target=\"_blank\">Many Worlds Interpretation<\/a>\u00a0suggests every important event has multiple possible outcomes and splits the world into alternate realities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mind-bending idea originally came from\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-019-02602-8\" target=\"_blank\">Hugh Everett<\/a>, a graduate student who wrote just one paper in the 1950s. Everett\u2019s theory describes the universe as a changing set of numbers, known as the wave function. According to Many Worlds, the universe continually splits into new branches, to produce multiple versions of ourselves.
