Il Divino Bambino is an exhibition of text based artwork taken from James Frey’s latest mansucript of the same name. Frey’s tale is a contemporary riff on Dante’s Divine Comedy and it offers up a story of his raucous trip through Heaven, Hell and Purgatory with a modern Virgil as a guide. For the exhibition, Frey has transformed his manuscript into a series of artworks: They are equal parts literary manuscript and visual artwork, things to be hung on a wall and read. With Il Divino Bambino, Frey once again gives us a glimpse of his own version of literary and artistic medicine, mixed and mashed-up in the subterranean basement of his wild imagination, a place where truth is stranger than fiction and fiction is a paler version of the truth.
